Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

APPELLATION : SAINT-JULIEN

Ducru-Beaucaillou owes its name to the “beautiful pebbles”, Gunz gravel, quartz pebbles swept by the ancient Garonne nearly two million years ago. These Gunz gravels gave rise to poor soils, forcing the vines to draw their nutrients at depth. In summer, the pebbles retain daytime heat and return it to the vines at night to facilitate grape ripening. A five-hectare park descending to the river completes this exceptional heritage ensemble, graced with century-old trees and statues of Diana, Bacchus and Demeter.

GOOD TO KNOW

The volume selected for the Grand Vin of Ducru-Beaucaillou has been drastically reduced, from 16,000 cases in 2002 to 8,000 in recent vintages. Fifty pairs of hands follow one after another behind each bottle, in a craft spirit that prioritises quality at every stage.
