Château Marquis de Terme

APPELLATION : MARGAUX

Founded in 1762 when the estate passed as a dowry to François de Peguilhan, Marquis de Terme, lending the property its name, this 4th Classified Growth of Margaux has been in the Sénéclauze family since 1935. Its 45-hectare vineyard, spread across three distinct plateau types and farmed organically since 2017, reveals a wine of graphite-edged precision and silky tannins. Under the leadership of Paloma Sénéclauze, appointed General Manager in 2024, the estate continues its long-term vision: to reveal, parcel by parcel, the full depth of one of Margaux’s most distinctive terroirs.

GOOD TO KNOW

Thomas Jefferson, future 3rd US President, visited the château in 1787 and ranked it among the 16 finest Bordeaux wines he had ever tasted, more than half a century before the official 1855 Classification. The estate’s original name, “Château Desmirail,” was changed when the Marquis de Terme received the vineyard as a dowry upon his marriage to Mademoiselle Ledoulx d’Emplet in 1762.
