Château Haut-Brion

APPELLATION : PESSAC-LEOGNAN

In 1521, Haut-Brion became the first Bordeaux cru designated by the name of its terroir rather than its owner or parish, making the estate the world’s first Grand Vin. Château Haut-Brion’s success rests on its respect for tradition, values and unique centuries-old expertise, combined with an innovative vision that keeps it firmly of the present. Through its wines, the estate’s ambition is to reveal the quintessence of an exceptional terroir. The vineyard is located in the commune of Pessac, just south-west of Bordeaux.

GOOD TO KNOW

Haut-Brion is the only estate to hold the double distinction of Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1855 and Cru Classé de Graves in 1959. Its white wine, produced on less than 3 hectares, is considered Bordeaux’s greatest dry white. It was also the first château to identify its wine by its terroir name as early as 1521, a revolution at the time.
