APPELLATION : PESSAC-LEOGNAN
Château Carbonnieux is one of the oldest and largest wine estates in the Bordeaux region. Its history spans nearly eight centuries and its vineyard covers around one hundred hectares. This vineyard, in the Perrin family for four generations, sits entirely around the château on top of a superb gravel ridge. All wines carry the Pessac-Léognan appellation. The vines, cultivated sustainably and eco-responsibly, are devoted exclusively to dry white wine and red wine, both of which hold the status of Grand Cru Classé de Graves.
GOOD TO KNOW
In the 18th century, the Benedictine monks who owned the estate shipped the white wine to the Ottoman Sultan’s court under the name “Carbonnieux mineral water”, a ruse to circumvent the alcohol ban. A pecan tree planted in the park during Thomas Jefferson’s 1787 visit still stands today.
