This estate was classified as a 2nd Grand Cru Classé in 1855 and lies within the iconic terroir of Saint Julien in Médoc. The roots of the Barton soul are found in this château in Saint Julien, concealing a thousand and one secrets. The château was built in 1758 by Monsieur de Pontet, with the unique feature of possessing beneath the private apartments a barrel-ageing cellar in the form of a vaulted crypt where all is silence and serenity. Léoville Barton claims the longest unbroken family ownership in all of Bordeaux: the Barton family has owned the estate continuously since 1826. From the 2021 vintage, the estate gained a new gravity-fed cuverie with a greater number of vats, enabling finer plot-by-plot selection.
