APPELLATION : SAINT-JULIEN
The defining spirit of Branaire-Ducru is first and foremost a “House Signature.” Fruit, freshness, elegance: three key components that form the core, the guiding thread woven through every wine from the Château. From the moment Patrick Maroteaux purchased the estate, he expressed the wish to produce wines truly representative of the Saint-Julien appellation, with a unique signature, the kind that allows one to identify the great growths. The Grand Cru of this Château is not the work of a single lifetime but of the successive passion of multiple families over several generations. A wine that has grown ever more noble over the years, until it became a masterpiece of Saint-Julien, possessed of that unique “House Signature”, recognisable among all others.
GOOD TO KNOW
Branaire-Ducru is the only Saint-Julien classified growth whose vineyard directly faces Château Beychevelle, from which it originated when the Duke of Épernon’s lands were broken up in 1680. In July 2024, a revolutionary new cellar with 65 gravity-fed suspended stainless steel vats was inaugurated, one of the most innovative installations in the Médoc. The writer Roald Dahl immortalised Branaire-Ducru in his cult short story “Taste” (“Le Connaisseur”).
