APPELLATION : BARSAC
The exceptional distinction of Château Climens, carried by a centuries-long tradition of excellence, earned it the title of “Lord of Barsac” early on. The history of this prestigious estate is defined by an unbroken continuity that has enabled the in-depth expression of a unique terroir alongside the preservation and refinement of ancestral knowledge. Climens has changed hands only five times in five centuries. Moreover, generations of estate managers, passing knowledge from father to son, have ensured the transmission of intimate expertise. A rare distinction among Bordeaux’s great growths: the structure and surface area have remained unchanged for at least two centuries.
GOOD TO KNOW
Climens was the first Bordeaux Grand Cru Classé to adopt biodynamic farming (2010, Biodyvin certified since 2014). It produces a remarkable single-varietal wine: 100% Sémillon, with no Sauvignon or Muscadelle. Its yields are among the lowest in the entire Sauternes region, often below 10 hl/ha. In 2022, the Moitry family acquired a majority stake, marking the start of a new chapter.
