Château La Gaffelière

APPELLATION : SAINT-EMILION

The very name of La Gaffelière speaks to a medieval past: derived from “gaffet,” the term for lepers who found refuge near this site. Yet this ancient land has been home to the vine since Gallo-Roman times, as attested by the mosaics unearthed on the property in 1969. The 22-hectare vineyard sits on three distinct terroirs (limestone plateau, clay-limestone slopes and siliceous foot-of-slope) whose union produces a nectar at once powerful, distinguished and silky. Without yielding to passing fashions, the de Malet Roquefort family upholds a distinctly French winegrower’s signature, rooted between tradition and modernity, revealing its finesse and elegance vintage after vintage.

GOOD TO KNOW

The de Malet Roquefort family has owned La Gaffelière continuously since 1705, making it the oldest family-owned estate in the Saint-Émilion appellation. In 2022, the château chose to voluntarily withdraw from the Saint-Émilion classification, while retaining the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation.
