APPELLATION : SAINT-JULIEN
The history of Léoville dates back to 1638, recounting the complex tale of men and women, family inheritances and property divisions; each chapter held within the stones and soils beneath the vines. The estate took its definitive form in 1840, when Baron Jean-Marie de Poyferré lent his name to this parcel of the great Léoville domain. Since 1920, the Cuvelier family has shaped its identity without losing its intrinsic spirit. Their motto, borrowed from Le Petit Prince, “the essential is invisible to the eye”, captures the philosophy perfectly: all efforts, actions and thoughts are focused on what ends up in the glass, vintage after vintage.
GOOD TO KNOW
The demi-wolf on the Léoville Poyferré label is not the Cuvelier family crest. It belongs to the Lawton family, wine merchants who presided over the estate from 1866 to 1920. The 80-hectare vineyard is planted across five distinct soil types, including Mindel gravel terraces, each contributing a unique character to the final blend.
