Château Lynch-Bages

APPELLATION : PAUILLAC

The history of Lynch-Bages, situated in the lands of “Batges” at the entrance to Pauillac, is emblematic of the Médoc region. The vineyard extends over 100 hectares to the south and southwest of Pauillac. The soils are homogeneous, essentially made up of deep Garonne gravel, resulting from the slow erosion of the Pyrenees. Since 2006, a thorough vineyard study using precision viticulture and satellite mapping tools has enabled the estate to analyse each parcel’s potential and restructure the existing 90 parcels into 200 sub-parcels, preserving the specificities of each terroir. This commitment to sustainable viticulture was recognised in 2018 with the High Environmental Value certification, covering biodiversity, plant protection, fertiliser management and water use.

GOOD TO KNOW

Despite being classified a Fifth Growth in 1855, Lynch-Bages consistently performs at Second Growth level, a reputation built over four generations of the Cazes family. The new winemaking facilities, inaugurated in 2020, were designed by Chien Chung Pei, son of legendary architect I.M. Pei, creator of the Louvre Pyramid. The gravity-fed cuverie houses 80 stainless steel vats and can accommodate two vintages simultaneously, doubling the ageing potential of the wines.
