APPELLATION : PAUILLAC
Founded in 1694 when the Pichon de Longueville vineyards passed as a marriage dowry, the estate was split in 1850 between Baron Raoul, giving birth to Pichon Baron, and his three sisters, who created Pichon Comtesse. Half of the 92-hectare vineyard shares the same gravelly soils as its illustrious neighbour Château Latour. Acquired by AXA Millésimes in 1987, the estate underwent a sweeping transformation: a new vat room, an underground cellar evoking Jules Verne’s Nautilus, and from 2022, the first white wine in the estate’s three-century history.
GOOD TO KNOW
The estate’s best land, the “Butte de Pichon Baron”, is devoted entirely to the Grand Vin. This iconic plot is among the estate’s most historic, already in use in 1694, the year the first Pichon Baron wine was produced.
