Château Rauzan-Ségla

APPELLATION : MARGAUX

Founded in 1661 when Pierre de Rauzan acquired the noble estate of Gassies, Château Rauzan-Ségla was once part of a vast property that would eventually give birth to four separate Classified Growths. Acquired by Maison Chanel in 1994, the estate has since been transformed into a pioneer of freshness-driven winemaking in Bordeaux: harvesting earlier, seeking brighter fruit and mineral precision over opulence. The 79-hectare vineyard is a mosaic of 21 soil types across 150 parcels, vinified parcel by parcel, a complexity that, in the words of General Manager Nicolas Audebert, makes each vintage “a symphony.”

GOOD TO KNOW

Rauzan-Ségla has a very atypical grape mix for Margaux: 53% Cabernet Sauvignon alongside 43% Merlot, with only 3% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc, a diversity that reflects the richness of its three distinct soil types.
